Moving checklist: from 8 weeks out to moving day

8 weeks before Book and sort

Book the movers — especially if it's for July 1^st. Sort room by room: donate, sell, recycle, toss. Start collecting sturdy boxes (grocery stores, SAQ, pharmacies). Notify the landlord in writing and re-read the lease for notice periods. Photograph the condition of your current place.

4 weeks before Paperwork and utilities

Change of address: Canada Post, RAMQ, SAAQ, Revenu Québec, bank, employer. Transfer Hydro-Québec, internet and home insurance to the new address. Reserve the elevator and truck parking (building management, borough permit). Pack what you won't need before then: books, décor, off-season clothes. Order wardrobe boxes, packing paper and tape.

2 weeks before Pack for real

Label every box: destination room + contents + FRAGILE where needed. Run down the freezer, stop the big grocery runs. Take apart what you no longer use: shelves, desk, spare bed. Put important documents in one separate box that travels with you. Confirm date, arrival time and crew size with us.

The day before The details that save the day

Unplug and defrost the fridge and freezer, doors open. Pack the "first night" box: sheets, chargers, coffee, toilet paper, toiletries. Have cash on hand for parking, tips or a surprise. Final sweep: closets, balcony, shed, under the sink, on top of cabinets.

Moving day You supervise, we carry

Clear hallways, the entrance and the stairs before the truck arrives. Keep valuables, keys, papers and medication with you. Check every room and every closet before closing the door. Read the meters and photograph the empty unit. Hand over the keys, and breathe.
